Maybe the gum line is different or I started to feel it when drinking cold water. <\/p><p>The tooth has not grown. <strong>The gum may have receded<\/strong>, leaving a part of the root that was previously covered. This change is called<strong> gingival recession.<\/strong> <\/p><p>Although it is often discovered by looking at a smile, the recession deserves attention for other reasons. The exposed root can make the tooth more sensitive and require specific hygiene and follow-up care. A tooth that appears longer than the others or a difference may arise between the gum line of two neighboring teeth. <\/p><p>There may also be sensitivity to cold, brush touch or certain foods. <strong>But the absence of pain does not mean that everything is fine<\/strong>: some recessions are identified only in a<strong> routine consultation.<\/strong><\/p><p>Not all<a href=\"https:\/\/aclinicadrpedromota.pt\/en\/tooth-sensitivity-to-cold-why-it-happens-and-what-you-can-do-to-relieve\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> tooth sensitivity <\/a>is caused by recession. May be related to the characteristics of the gum tissues, the position of the teeth, periodontal inflammation or local trauma. The way you brush your teeth should also be evaluated, especially if you apply too much pressure or make traumatic movements.  <\/p><p>In many cases, several factors coexist. Therefore, assigning the change immediately to the toothbrush or &#8220;age&#8221; can delay the identification of the actual problem. <\/p><p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=NwM3yu4Xv5E\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gum recession<\/a> alone is not a diagnosis of periodontitis.<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/aclinicadrpedromota.pt\/en\/periodontitis-and-general-health-why-inflammation-of-the-gums-is-not-a-local-problem\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Periodontitis<\/a> affects the supporting tissues of teeth and requires self-assessment. Likewise, considering that the change is only aesthetic, without examining the gingiva, can make important signs go unnoticed. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div When exposed, sensitivity can arise and the area may become more vulnerable to injury, including root <a href=\"https:\/\/aclinicadrpedromota.pt\/en\/quem-minha-boca-adoca-meu-sorriso-amarga-aprenda-a-prevenir-caries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">caries<\/a>. The actual risk depends on, among other factors, oral hygiene, diet and individual conditions.  <\/p><p>This does not mean that all recessions will aggravate or cause tooth loss. It means that<strong> monitoring its evolution and protecting the exposed area can be important.<\/strong> <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8bcd272 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"8bcd272\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Can the retracted gum return to normal and cover the tooth?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-98ad4db elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"98ad4db\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Naturally, no. But correcting the cause and improving daily care can help control the situation, but this does not mean that the gum spontaneously returns to its previous position. <\/p><p>When there is a clinical indication, periodontal <a href=\"https:\/\/aclinicadrpedromota.pt\/en\/specialties\/oral-surgery\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">surgery<\/a> techniques may be considered to improve root coverage or conditions of gingival tissues<strong>.
