And <strong>saliva <\/strong>is an essential defense mechanism: <strong>it helps to neutralize acids and &#8220;wash&#8221; waste.<\/strong> <\/p><p data-start=\"1709\" data-end=\"2058\">So <strong>when the baby falls asleep with the bottle<\/strong> or falls asleep right after feeding, without any oral cleansing, it creates the <strong>perfect setting for plaque to do its job<\/strong>: producing acids and weakening the enamel.<\/p><p data-start=\"2060\" data-end=\"2105\">The result is not immediate. But it is predictable. It is not about &#8220;brushing hard&#8221; or &#8220;brushing long&#8221;.
