Yes, when supervised by your oral hygienist. There are many products available on the market, advertised as “whiteners”, but not all are safe and can damage the dental structure. As they are not applied by professionals, over-the-counter products cannot have very high concentrations of the bleaching product, and therefore are not effective. The products applied by professionals have the highest percentage and permitted by law, so that the treatment is done safely and effectively. There may be increased tooth sensitivity during treatment, but it disappears after finishing the treatment.
In principle, any person with good oral health can perform tooth bleaching. Patients with cavities, gingivitis or periodontitis require prior treatment before bleaching. As a precaution, it is not recommended for pregnant women. Note that whitening agents are not effective in facets, crowns, or restorations.

How is teeth whitening done?
There are two possible ways:

Philips Zoom in-office teeth whitening is an advanced procedure that aims to effectively and safely whiten your teeth up to 8 shades of white in just one visit. You’ll be surprised by the result.
It uses a hydrogen peroxide gel with a patented formula and balanced pH that protects the gums and minimizes tooth sensitivity, combined with a WhiteSpeed LED light bulb developed specifically for this purpose.
During the procedure, gel is applied to the teeth and they are exposed to LED light for four sessions of 15 minutes each. To ensure their safety, plastic retractors and protections on soft tissues such as lips, gums and cheeks will be used, as well as eye protection to filter LED light. After the procedure is complete the retractor, gel and all tissue protection will be removed. Your color level before and after treatment will also be recorded. The final kit you will take home will depend on the final result after finishing in the cabinet. You may need to use for at least 3 days, but the oral hygienist will give you all necessary instructions.
Results may vary from person to person, depending on the response of teeth to treatment. Generally, significant changes in tooth color are observed, including in cases of very dark teeth. However, some specific conditions such as drug stains or trauma may require additional or longer treatments. After the procedure, it is essential to follow some guidelines to ensure the maintenance of results.
For the first 24 hours, it is recommended to avoid food and drinks that can stain your teeth, such as coffee, tea, dark sodas, among others.
To maintain long-term results, it is essential to maintain good oral hygiene and avoid harmful habits such as smoking and consuming foods or beverages that can stain your teeth.
You will find yourself with a smile close to the “Hollywood smile”, but don’t forget that for the smile to be perfect, it has to fit your face, that is, made to measure, so as not to risk hearing someone say that your teeth are “not real”!
